Riversdale Arts Incorporated was established in 1973 as a group of art enthusiasts collaborating to practice arts and crafts. The group has now evolved to become a community group that foster and facilitate appreciation of all the various art forms, highlighted with an annual mixed media exhibition. Public engagement is encouraged through workshops which run alongside the exhibition, an exhibition space reserved for the local school pre and primary schools, and Emerging Artist competition specifically for those aged between 13 – 25 years. The annual exhibition celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, and has become a premier event in the Southland arts calendar. The exhibition showcases pieces of art from throughout New Zealand, offering those in the district the opportunity to view, purchase, and appreciate art works they may otherwise not have access to.
