Lynn Brocherie Millar

About

My name is Lynn Brocherie Millar. I studied at the Otago polytechnic Oamaru campus and graduated in 1995 with a Diploma in Fine Arts. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher, married with two young adult boys and live in Invercargill.Over lockdown I committed myself to create a drawing a day. Lockdown gave me more unhurried time to reconnect with my creative side. I became more aware and mindful of my surroundings. My daily drawings were inspired by my day-to-day experiences and daily lockdown walks. I am drawn to every day objects and the natural environment and endeavour to create pieces that reflect their that light, shape, form, texture and colour.I draw in fine tip ink pen that allows me to produce detailed drawings.Over lockdown I experimented with recycled and re-claimed surfaces to work on which I gathered from my daily lockdown walks and my endless cups of tea. These surfaces have been dried steeped teabags and blue gum tree bark. They have added distinctive surfaces that reflect earthy toned backgrounds which I believe give depth and texture to my drawings.A New York artist Ruby Silvious has been influential to my work where she too, creates artworks on recycled and reclaimed canvases. Silvious also produces a visual journal of her life and travels through her art work which I have been inspired and motivated by during my Lockdown experiences. Post lockdown I aspire to continue creating art.
