Jason Fraser (Director/Actor)

About

Jasons interest in theatre started at an early age largely influenced by his family. At school Jason was involved in a number of productions, the highlight being Jesus in Godspell. At age 16 Jason was cast in his first Invercargill Musical Theatre Company (IMT) production of Evita. Prior to that Jason was a lighting assistant for IMT for 2 years and still has an interest in lighting. He has been a cast member with 17 productions for IMT highlights being Skimbleshanks in Cats, Jamie in My Fair Lady and Baby-John in West Side Story. In 2021, Jason once again performed for IMT in Les Miserable in which he was an Ensemble member and Thernadier Understudy. Over the years Jason has also performed in 9 Repertory Invercargill Productions, highlights being Mitch from Streetcar Named Desire, Capt. Dennis Stanhope in Journeys End and Lieut. Harkness from Once on Chunuk Bair. Jasons last performed for Repertory as Mr Mickleby in Wanted – One Body! in 2022 in which he received an Otago Southland Theatre Award (OSTAS) nomination for Leading Male Character in a Play. Recently Jason has turned his hand to Directing, assisting with Repertory and Shakespeare in the Parks production of Twelfth Night. In 2018 Jason devised and directed Repertorys extremely popular production of Blackadder, Goes Forth (The Play). In 2021 Jason once again devised and directed Repertorys production of Blackadder, The Golden Age which won 5 OSTAS that year. In 2022 Jason directed the World Premiere of 18 Eden Avenue a musical by Roger Gimblett and Sally Bodkin-Allen which was nominated for 7 and won 2 OSTAS. In 2023 Jason devised and directed the final part of the Blackadder Trilogy – Blackadder, Butler to the Prince.
