Improv Southland

About

Improv Southland is a project by creator Charmin Dahl. Offering Drop-in Improv (aka Theatre Sports), workshops, and classes in Play, Connection, and Collaboration using Improvised Theatre techniques. My current focus is on two styles of Improv, improvised theatre (also known as theatre sports), and Applied Improv. In improvised theatre, participants create characters and are put into scenes, which often have a game-like feel, where they then act out the scene, making it up on the spot. This style is similar to the TV show and Whose Line is it Anyway? Applied Improv uses the techniques of improvised theatre for reasons other than theatre, or putting on a show. For example, businesses and organisations may offer a workshop to their staff for the purpose of boosting teamwork, generating creative solutions, sharing ideas, and more. Both Improv for the theatre and Applied Improv are beneficial to participants as a way to increase creativity, gain confidence in performance (including public speaking), form a collaborative mindset, and learn to think quickly on ones feet. In addition to all of that, Improv is ridiculously fun to both watch and try.
