Each year, Te Hīkoi Museum’s Art Challenge invites artists of all experience levels, working across any medium, to create new work inspired by objects from the museum’s remarkable collection of more than 8,000 historic artefacts.

This special exhibition brings history and creativity together, with each artwork displayed alongside the object that inspired it. Visitors can explore the unique connections between past and present, discovering how artists have interpreted Southland’s rich history through their own creative lens.

$4 entry or included in full museum admission (children free).

Come and explore Te Hikoi Southern Journey, it’s the South’s ultimate heritage attraction – one of the best small museums and information centre, located in on the Southern Scenic Route.
