Lesa Hepburn

For more than 30 years I’ve worked with handmade paper and natural plant fibres, creating botanical fibre art that celebrates the beauty and potential of the natural world. My practice is built around sustainable methods, using locally available plant materials, recycled resources and low-impact processes to transform a single leaf into woven, twined and paper-based artworks.

Based in Invercargill, I’ve exhibited throughout New Zealand and Australia, but I’m equally passionate about sharing the process behind my work. I’m continually learning about local plants, fibres and the environment to ensure my practice remains both sustainable and culturally respectful.

During the Southland Arts Trail, you’ll find my work on display at Kanki’s Café. Drop in for a coffee or a bite to eat as you make your way around the trail, and take some time to enjoy my latest collection.
