Museum & Exhibition Space

Join us at the Croydon Aviation & Heritage Centre during the Southland Arts Trail. During the month of November our gallery will be host to a photographic exhibition by Kim McKechie.

Kim McKechie is a portrait photographer and photographic artist working in the Southland/Otago region. Taking her inspiration from decades of music and stories, plus weaving in all the theatrical nuance she can muster, Kim delights in creating illustrative imagery that is seeped in nostalgia.

Portraits are a way to look at identity. To claim your space in a time and place. To connect us with ourselves, our history and our future.

Kim’s first exhibition ‘OBSERVATION’ is a visual conversation that comments on how frequently we are observed in today’s world, and how infrequently we see. The exhibition gives the viewer permission to look closely, make eye contact, stare even. It also asks the question; are you the observer, or the observed?

Kim holds a diploma in photography from SIT, but she is still working on a qualification from the school of hard knocks.
