Mini-studios at Whare Taupua are pop-up creative spaces where 10 artists will create, and showcase their art from. Each artist brings a different style, making it a vibrant hub of creativity during the Arts Trail.

Originally from India and now based in Invercargill, Ashwin Gogate brings a vibrant perspective to the Southland arts community. A passionate watercolour artist, Ashwin’s work is alive with colour, detail, and a distinctive sense of flair. His paintings capture both the delicacy and dynamism of the medium, celebrating its ability to blend spontaneity with control.

Since moving to Southland with his family, Ashwin has embraced the region’s landscapes, culture, and community, weaving them into his creative journey. During the Arts Trail, he will be painting from a mini-studio at Whare Taupua, offering visitors the chance to experience his artistry up close.

Through his practice, Ashwin aims to share joy, vibrancy, and a piece of his heritage while continuing to explore new inspirations in his adopted home.
