About

Pottery is my media. I create a lot of mugs and small bowls dabbling with experimental glazes looking for interesting and outstanding finishes. I also saggar fire non-functional pots to create random and spontaneous designs created in the kiln with glaze chemicals, heat, some skill and a lot luck. My pottery is also available at the Arts Hub in Te Anau on corner of Town Centre and Mokonui Streets. I also teach introductory pottery. Pottery in all its forms and stages keeps me in my happy place. Through from finding clay in the ground or purchasing clays, refining clays, working both on the pottery wheel and hand work. The exciting process is firing the work and creating magic in both electric and gas kilns hoping for anticipated and unexpected results when opening the kiln. Teaching pottery brings many rewards when I see new potters create artwork of their own. As they learn the tactile feeling that clay provides while they shape it in any of the infinite potential forms.Working with clay is soothing for the artist while also providing challenges to use available materials and tools that take a lifetime to master. The internet has a huge resource of teaching tools for all artists.
