Andrew Hill

I’ve been working as a professional ceramic artist for nearly 40 years, creating pieces that have found homes throughout New Zealand and around the world. My work is shaped by a passion for clay and a fascination with the unique character that comes from traditional firing methods.

This year I’m excited to be building a Sasukenei Dancing Flame wood-fired kiln, which I hope to have completed by August. If all goes to plan, visitors to the Southland Arts Trail will be able to see the results of its very first firing over Labour Weekend. It’s an exciting new chapter in my ceramic journey, and I’d love to welcome you into my studio to share the process, the work, and the stories behind it.
